We’d start with the train station – you can reach Aberdeen in around half an hour, or Dundee or Inverness in under two hours. But why would you want to leave, when there are so many things to do in Inverurie?
Known locally as the “heart of Garioch”, this growing town offers a taste of city living with plenty of shops, restaurants and attractions to keep residents contained and entertained.

Cafes, bars and restaurants
When it comes to food and drink, you are definitely well catered for.
Café culture is in full swing with the delectable Almondine creating the best in French patisserie and Dreamy Goat Coffee serving quality brews and food throughout the day.
For lunch and dinner, Fennel Restaurant receives rave reviews, and international cuisine can be found at Via Roma for Italian and Spice of Life for Indian. If you’re on the lookout for something lighter, Inverurie Garden Centre always has a homely serving on the counter – and you can pick up a beautiful new plant for the garden at the same time.
Just on the outskirts of Inverurie you’ll find Ardennan House Hotel, Porterhouse, Thainstone House and Meldrum House Hotel Country Hotel where a celebration of fine Scottish fayre awaits.
If it’s a bar you’re looking for in Inverurie, you’ll definitely find your new local. Favourites amongst residents include the Butchers Arms, Banks of Ury and the Black Bull Inn. Fans of BrewDog will be pleased to know there’s a bar in the town centre with filled with craft beer.
And when you have the taste for pub grub, The Gordon Highlander, Drouthy Laird and Edward’s are perfect matches.
Things to do in Inverurie
Over the years the town has managed to counteract the decline of the high street. Traditional greengrocers, Strachans toy shop, Booth home appliances and jewellers Sinclairs are just some of the local retailers you can find in the town centre.
The Kilted Frog Delicatessen is an absolute gem, selling wonderful cheese, takeaway food and great coffee. Seek them out for their cheese, chutney and biscuit offerings, as well as their popular sandwich selections. The croque monsieur is a perennial classic.
Meanwhile, Inverurie Pet Supplies boasts a tasty selection of food and treats as well as equipment for your furry – or fluffy – friend.
Residents can take their pick of Aldi, Farmfoods, Lidl, Marks & Spencer, Morrisons and Tesco to do their food shopping and shop-hop to find themselves the best deals.
The town even has two retail parks located on either side of Inverurie train station.
Exploring the outdoors
Our Crest of Lochter development has a prime view over Bennachie, but for a closer look, grab those walking boots and head for the hills. Whether it’s hiking to the top of its peaks to take in panoramic views of Aberdeenshire or staying low on its Colony Trail, there’s plenty to explore.

Fitness and leisure
If fitness is high on your agenda, Garioch Sports Centre brings gym facilities, classes, personal trainers, a sports hall and squash court under one roof along with outdoor pitches and running track. And if you’re looking for water activities, Inverurie Community Campus is your answer with swimming pool and gym facilities.
Golf lovers can take on Inverurie Golf Club, Oldmeldrum Golf Club and the golf course at Meldrum House Hotel (which features in Golf World’s Top 100 Golf Courses in Scotland).
Activities and attractions in Inverurie
Take a short drive to Fyvie Castle and Castle Fraser and explore the stories of the historic and the ghoulish at these popular castles. There’s some great walks around the castle grounds here to if you don’t want to go inside.
Back in Inverurie, keep the kids (and adults) entertained at Skyline Trampoline Park and not forgetting 10 pin bowling at Garioch Indoor Bowling Centre. Not forgetting go-karting, archery and zorbing at Lochter Activity Centre.
